Priests Ordained for the Archdiocese of Tuam

Fr. Geoffrey Prendergast, Accony – PP Ballyhaunis (Ordained 1903).  Also served in Crossboyne, Letterfrack, Castlebar and Army Chaplaincy.  Died 1959

Fr. James P. Prendergast, Accony – PP Abbeyknockmoy (Ordained 1903). Died 1937.

Fr. James Peter Prendergast, Accony – PP Aghagower (Ordained 1927). Died 1973

Fr. Patrick Prendergast, Accony – PP Leenane (Ordained 1939).  Also served in St. Jarlath’s College, Castlebar, Kylemore and Kilmaine.  Died 1975

Priests Ordained for Other Irish Dioceses

Fr. Leo Morahan, Main Street, Louisburgh – PP Rosmuc (Ordained 1952) and served in the Galway Diocese, retired in Louisburgh.  (Honorary past pupil, never made it to the school register but spent a few preschool days in Accony with his father)

Priests Ordained for English, US and Australian Dioceses

Fr. Eugene Duffy, Askelane (Ordained 1950) Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California, taught in the Catholic High Schools of the diocese and last served in Altadena. Died 2009

Fr. Anthony Burke Pulgloss and Skipton, England.  Currently serving in Derbyshire.

Fr. Sean O’Leary, Bunowen, served in Los Angeles and now retired living in Louisburgh.

Priests Ordained for Religious Orders and Missonary Societies:

Fr. Pádraig Ó Máille, Doughmakeon,  - Kiltegan Fathers, Malawi

Fr. Redmond Lyons CSSp, Accony – Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Kimmage Manor. Served in Kenya and in the Tuam Diocese prior to his retirement. Died April 11th, 2009 R.I.P.

Priests Ordained for the Archdiocese of Tuam 19th Century

Fr. Richard Prendergast (1812-1883) PP Burrishoole, died aged 71 years and buried at Newport Church.

Fr. Richard Prendergast (1837 – 1905) PP Kilcommon and Robeen.  Died aged 68 years and buried in Roundfort Church.

Nuns Professed and Past Pupils of Accony National School:

Sr. Richard (Bridgie [D.M.] Prendergast), Accony – a member of the Institute of The Blessed Virgin Mary.  A teaching order.  She first taught in St. Mary’s Convent Ascot where she was professed in 1966.  Later in the convent in Hamstead and presently works within a parish in Norwich.

Sr. Claver (Kitty [D.M.] Prendergast), Accony – Died 1998 aged 81 years R.I.P.  Also, belonged to a teaching order in Herberton, Queensland, Australia. 

Sr. Jarlath (Bridgie Prendergast), Accony – a member of the Bon Secour Nursing Order, Kerry in early 1950’s and died in 2008 having dedicated her life in caring for the sick.
